Two renewable power plants are planned for the Campbell Soup Co. facility in Maxton, N.C.: a 6.3MW solar array, which will generate about 8,000MWh per year, will sit beside a biogas digester that is also under development. Campbell Soup would host the solar array on 35 acres of its property, enabling the plant to be built in a state that does not currently allow third-party PPAs. The project is one of several BNB is developing for Campbell Soup throughout the United States. Campbell is engaged in a historical, company-wide sustainability effort, with the goal of sourcing 40 percent of its energy from renewable resources by 2020. In April of 2012, after a competitive request for proposals, Campbell awarded BNB the exclusive right to develop, own and operate renewable power plants across its North American sites.
